Ahhh, Greece. The land of dramatic landscapes, secret coves and endless blue seas. Did you know that Greece has the 11th longest coastline in the world and ranks second in the world for its number of Blue Flag beaches? For a country of just 11 million people, we think that’s pretty good going! There is no shortage of beautiful beaches to uncover, but we’re here to share with you some of our favourites.
Kefalonia
The gorgeous beaches of Kefalonia were brought to public attention in the 2001 film ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’. The beachy poster child of the island is steep limestone cliff-flanked Myrtos, where the water is the colour of blue Powerade, the vegetation is lush, and the views are to-die-for. Other must-visit beaches on Kefalonia include the mirror-like snorkelling haven of Foki beach and the hard-to-reach but show-stopping Platia Ammos beach. Before you leave Kefalonia, make sure you take a trip to west-facing Petani beach to watch a truly sensational sunset.

Lefkada
Lefkada is a rugged mountainous island with beaches so perfect, you may wonder whether you’re actually in the Caribbean rather than in the middle of the Ionian Sea. The number one beach is undoubtedly Porto Katsiki where steep white cliffs form a beautiful contrast with crystalline, deep blue waters. Stunning Egremni is a short hop away but is a gorgeous beach displaying 50 shades of turquoise. Less known is Milos beach for those on the lookout for a knockout of a beach without the crowds. If you fancy a spot of windsurfing or kitesurfing, the south coast is the destination for you: Sivota is a wonderful beach with schools so you can make the most of the sea breeze.
Milos
Head to Milos to enjoy crystal-clear emerald waters backed by milky white volcanic rocks and steep volcanic cliffs. The island’s pin-up is spectacular Sarakiniko (also known as ‘The Moonscapes of Milos’ – you’ll understand why when you see it in all its lunar loveliness!). Once you’ve spent a day at this Insta-famous haven which really is as good as it looks in the photos, make sure to check out the bottle-green swimming hole at Papafragas. Golden sandy beaches to set up camp with a good book and while away the days can be found at Tsiagrado, Paleochora, Plathiena and Provatas.

Mykonos
From pocket-sized, picturesque coves to sandy expanses playing host to decadent parties, beaches of all shapes and sizes make up Mykonos’s coastline. The most famous of the island’s beaches are the long, picturesque stretches of Psarou, Paradise Beach and Super Paradise Beach. If you want to steer clear of loud music, Platys Gialos is an absolute knockout. Food lovers should definitely check out Kiki’s taverna and then snooze off the delicious moussaka in the afternoon sun on the understated but very beautiful Agios Sostis.

Crete
Crete is the biggest of the Greek islands and, with a coastline of 1046 miles, it’s unsurprising that there are a plethora of picture-perfect, paradisiac beaches to be found! Elafonisi, on the west of the island, is famed for its pink sands and warm waters. Nearby Balos Lagoon is a tropical paradise worth adding to the top of your Cretan bucket list. Other more off-the-beaten-track beautiful beaches to check out include Seitan Limania, near the airport; and Agiannis beach, once rated as the second-best beach in the world by National Geographic, where there are more animals than people – including the endangered Mediterranean monk seal and Caretta-Caretta sea turtles.
